    An original and rather beautiful hand coloured copper engraving of the Yellow Striped Sparus. Described by Shaw as a “Red Sparus with yellow lateral stripe and tail, also known as the Yellow-tailed Sparus, a highly beautiful fish which inhabits the waters of Brasil. Its general length is from twelve to eighteen inches”

    Nicely framed in gilt with cream black cored mat board. It works its lovely ….

    A rare and striking hand coloured copper engraving of the Clouded Owl (Strix Nebulosa) by Shaw & Nodder published in London c1790

    Described by the Natural History Museum, London as alternatively the Great Grey Owl, Ghost Owl or Lapland Owl and as endangered. Not sure though as other sources appear to contradict and say the Strix Nebulosa are not in any difficulty .. we very much hope so as it’s a lovely Owly owl.

    George Shaw was in charge of the Natural History Department at the British Museum. Nodder was a natural history artist and worked for Banks on his Florilegium.

    Framed in gilt within cream mat board dimensions 36cms x 30cms.
