    Copper engraved and hand coloured this engraving of the mysterious Least Horned Owl was published in 1790 by Shaw & Nodder.

    George Shaw was in charge of the Natural History Department at the British Museum. Nodder was a natural history artist and worked for Banks on his Florilegium.

    Framed in gilt dimensions 36cms x 30cms.

    First Edition of the important African exploration account, published London by A D Innes in 1896.

    Large octavo 413 pages, after preliminaries, frontispiece of “Snow Peaks of Ruwenzori”, 49 plates and illustrations from photographs and sketches, four maps including three coloured. Original cloth covered boards with pictorial design to front, gilt lettering to spine. A very good copy.

    An important work on African exploration and discovery, under the auspices of The Royal Geographical Society, including a thorough study of the terrain, people, nature and botany. The appendix contains a list of the native chiefs in the area, scientific collections, agricultural and other products of the region.

    Very nicely illustrated – an important and rare book on Africa.
