Published by Knopf, New York a first edition 1932 in really lovely condition with as good a dust jacket as you will get.

The author went to Brasenose and the book fits his pedigree. Lewis Alison is a British Officer (WWI) interned in a Dutch Castle, Enkendall. A strange and strangely moving love story ensues after he meets Julie the “hosts” stepdaughter … complex and beautifully written.

  • The Rueful Mating – G.B. Stern – First Edition 1932

The Rueful Mating – G.B. Stern – First Edition 1932

A First Edition 1932 published by Knopf New York as one of their Borzoi Books.

A very good and lengthy romance by Miss Stern. The book is a tad foxed due to the uncut edges but the jacket is a collectable piece of deco imagery and makes up for it as well as the unique Borzoi end papers.

  • Ark of Venus – Clyde Clason – 1955

Ark of Venus – Clyde Clason – 1955

A first edition 1955 a bit marked in the endpapers and with the interesting institutional stamp mentioned below. A special Sc-Fi book sometimes referred to as for younger people but we think for the young at heart. Dust jacket to die for.

A really fun Sci-Fi from 1955 … let’s colonise Venus because the Moon and Mars did not come up to scratch. The Library stamps are an honour in this case as the history of the now truly gone “Sydney Futurian Society” after the sad passing of Graham Stone, a Sci-Fi Guru and much more in 2014.

Special Sci-Fi and rare in any condition

  • Appointment in Samarra – John O’Harra

Appointment in Samarra – John O’Harra

John O’Harra’s first novel and a little naughty in parts … and sad at the end.

Lovely condition … just look at the crisp bright dust jacket over sixty years old!

Praised by Hemingway although O’Harra did not feel his influence. Great introduction reflecting on his life during his writing (interesting) and the real influences and how the title came about … Not a self analysis … seemingly

    Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!

That from Heaven, or near it,
    Pourest thy full heart
In profuse strains of unpremeditated art.

    Higher still and higher
    From the earth thou springest
    Like a cloud of fire;
    The blue deep thou wingest,
And singing still dost soar, and soaring ever singest….

Shelley a large dose … makes for a lovely gift …
