Joachim Murat – by Jacquemin – 1869

Short Description

An original large hand coloured lithograph of Joachin-Napoleon Murat (1767-1815) who became Marshall and Admiral of France under Napoleon. He was also the Grand Duke of Berg from 1806-1808 and King of Naples from 1808 until his death. He was favoured having married Napoleon’s younger sister Caroline Bonaparte. Daring, brave and a flamboyant dresser he was known as the “Dandy King”.

The artist Raphael Jacquemin (1821-1881) was French and the grandson of the grand Rabbi of Paris and Trieste. He studied In Paris and frequented the Milan and Florence Academies. His greatest work was an "Iconography of costumes” from which this lithograph originally came. Very good condition on heavy paper with bright fresh colouring, 43cm x 30cm in the printed area so quite some scale.
