The Life, Voyages, and Exploits of Sir Francis Drake – John Barrow – 1844

Short Description

title continues … with numerous original letters from him and the Lord High Admiral to the Queen and Great Officers of State.

Barrow’s famous work on Drake now rather scarce despite being the second printing published by Murray, London in 1844 [First 1843].

Octavo, xii, 186 pages, rebound expertly at some time, very solid and clean. A very good copy.

Who better to write about Drake but Sir John Barrow (1764-1848) who was Second Secretary to the Admiralty at the time of writing. The excellent biography outlines Drakes involvement in Piracy and Privateering [piracy with the blessing of the Queen], his successes against the Armada, his circumnavigation of the World and more voyages to his favourite haunt the West Indies … not everything fell his way.

A scarce and worthy biography of Drake.
